  • 🌿 Ongoing Fellowship Work

Since being selected in 2022 as a fellow of the Kakao Impact Fellowship (now known as #Brian_impact), Yewon Kim, director of DRAC, has continued to carry forward her mission as a social innovator.

Through her legal and policy work at DRAC, she advocates for people with disabilities and other marginalized groups — addressing injustice and working toward a society where dignity, safety, and access to everyday life are guaranteed for all.

Her fellowship journey reflects not just recognition, but ongoing action.

  • We had the opportunity to speak at the National Assembly as a reference witness regarding proposed legislation to limit prosecutorial investigative powers.

We emphasized the importance of a fair and inclusive criminal justice system — one that truly protects persons with disabilities, children, older adults, and others in vulnerable positions.

At DRAC, we continue to follow legal reforms closely and work to make sure that the voices of those most affected are heard by lawmakers.

Justice must work for everyone. Always. ⚖️

  • 📍Meeting with the Irish Embassy 🇮🇪
I had the honour of meeting Ambassador Ms. Winthrop and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. McGreevey for a powerful conversation on disability rights and deinstitutionalisation in Korea.

Both showed deep agreement with the principle:
“From institutions to communities.”
This is not about politics—it's about dignity, equality, and the right to belong.

For over 15 years, DRAC has stood at the forefront of Korea’s movement for deinstitutionalisation.
We believe every person has the right to grow up where they are born and choose their own community. That’s not special treatment—it’s basic justice.

  • 🧩 When the law becomes a mask for exclusion, rights fade quietly.

In May 2025, DRAC's Yewon Kim spoke at the Joint Human Rights Conference on how disability rights are being undermined under the appearance of legality.

From symbolic protections to systemic neglect, we asked:
What happens when exclusion is made legal?

Disability rights are not secondary —
they are a mirror of the state of justice.

  • 💬 "AI must work for everyone."
In May 2025, DRAC participated as a speaker at the public forum on Ending Discrimination in Financial Services Using Artificial Intelligence.

We delivered a presentation focused on legal and institutional reforms necessary to address the growing concerns of AI-driven exclusion and discrimination in financial systems. Our message was clear: AI development must be grounded in accessibility, inclusiveness, and accountability.

We highlighted the importance of legislation that considers users with diverse disabilities and circumstances — ensuring that the future of financial technology is fair, transparent, and equitable for all.

DRAC remains committed to promoting rights-based, human-centered AI policy that leaves no one behind. ⚖️🤖💡

  • 🇰🇷🤝🇺🇳 DRAC at the 2024 CEDAW Review in Geneva

As a civil society expert organization, DRAC (Disability Rights Advocate Center) participated on-site in Geneva for the 2024 review of the Republic of Korea by the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

We stood in solidarity with fellow advocates to bring international attention to the reality of women's rights in Korea, including the voices of women with disabilities. Through our efforts, we contributed to meaningful recommendations from the CEDAW Committee that aim to advance gender equality and human rights in Korea.

Together, we continue the fight for a more inclusive and just world. 🌍✊
